Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi was officially declared the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress on Saturday, after the party’s national leader announced a unanimous resolution in his favour.
“You have heard the motion being moved, seconded, and a resolution passed unanimously,” NDC National Chairman Senator Henry Seriake Dickson told delegates at the party’s special convention in Abuja on Saturday.
“It is therefore my singular honour and privilege, in company of the National Chairman and all other great leaders of our party, to most humbly invite unto the rostrum, His Excellency, Peter Gregory Obi. On behalf of all our millions,” Dickson added.
Dickson presented the party’s flag to Obi at a special convention held in Abuja.

The event drew party chieftains, including former Kano State Governor and Senator Musa Kwankwaso and former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, along with other stakeholders from across the country.

Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, made a high-profile move to the NDC earlier this year. His adoption positions him as a leading opposition figure seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the January 2027 presidential election.
