Hilliard Etta, the former acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has rejected the data suggesting that 73% of Nigerians disapprove of Nigerian President Tinubu’s reforms.
Etta, in an interview with Arise News, said that although he is a supporter and follower of Tinubu, he has not gained anything from his administration.
“I am, as you said, as you introduced me, an avowed follower and associate of Mr. President. But let me say that in the past three years, I have gained absolutely nothing from this government,” said Etta.
“As you are aware, I was appointed the chairman of the NYC about a year and three months ago, and haven’t been inaugurated into office. You haven’t? Yes, and nobody can accuse me of defending the government because it has benefited me personally.”

Etta said it was impossible that over 70% of Nigerians disapprove of Tinubu’s reforms. According to him, the off-cycle elections in the country reflect Nigerians’ support for Tinubu’s administration.
“First of all, I completely disagree with the information that 73% of Nigerians disapprove. Those are independent surveys,” he added.
“Well, I tend to believe in the outcomes of the elections that we’ve had off-season. For me, that is a better way of looking at the acceptance of government. We’ve had off-season elections in Nigeria.
We’ve had in Anambra. We’ve had in Abuja. We’ve had in so many places in Nigeria.
He added that if the reforms Tinubu is implementing now had been introduced by previous administrations, Nigeria would be in a better place than it currently is.
“If these reforms were done at the time that Nigeria had so much, perhaps the Nigerian state would not have been where we are today. If the likes of President Obasanjo had done what the president is doing now, Nigeria would not be here,” Etta added.
