Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has urged Nigerians not to politicise the recent school abductions in Oyo and Borno states, assuring that the government is working to secure the release of the abducted students and teachers.

No fewer than 82 children were abducted between May 13 and 15, 2026, in Oyo and Borno states.

The abductions have triggered widespread outrage and protests across the country.

Teachers in Oyo State staged protests on Monday, while their colleagues in Ogun, Oyo, and other states also demonstrated on Tuesday over the same issue.

Addressing teachers who gathered in the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday, Wike said the government is making efforts to rescue the abductees.

“We are all concerned about this security situation. The government is on its toes to ensure that those who are kidnapped are rescued. I have that confidence that the security system will do all they can to make sure the teachers and the students who are being kidnapped are rescued, and let it be prompt,” Wike said.

“We are all concerned, but let us not politicise issues. That is what I will not support. We are all concerned about the security situation and how the teachers and students should be released,” he added.

Wike also said the government is not deliberately allowing abductions and insecurity to persist in the country.
