After nearly four years away from competitive tennis, 44-year-old Serena Williams will take part in the women’s doubles at June’s WTA event in Berlin, organisers announced Friday, the next stop in her comeback.

“Every tournament I add to my schedule right now is special, and Berlin is no exception,” Williams said in a statement, expressing excitement to perform in front of the German crowd and build momentum for the grass-court season.

Her doubles partner will be announced at a later date. Williams recently confirmed her return at London’s Queen’s Club tournament, which starts on June 8, and the Berlin event, beginning June 15, serves as a key warm-up for Wimbledon, which starts June 29.

Nine of the WTA’s top ten players are scheduled to compete in Berlin, providing a high-level competitive environment for the American legend.

Williams’ last tour match was a third-round exit at the US Open in September 2022, marking the end of her previous campaign. She will also participate in tournaments at Bad Homburg, Germany, and Eastbourne, England, before Wimbledon.

With an illustrious career boasting seven Wimbledon singles titles and six doubles victories, Williams’ return marks a highly anticipated moment in women’s tennis.
