Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Friday that the war in Ukraine will end only when Russia fully achieves its strategic goals, explicitly rebuffing Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent appeal for a face-to-face meeting.
Putin dismissed the Ukrainian president’s open letter from the previous day, asserting that he sees no point in a personal encounter until both nations finalise a formal peace deal.
Speaking at Russia’s flagship economic forum in Saint Petersburg, the Russian president insisted that the Ukrainian side must stop the advance of Russian armed forces to make any talks meaningful.

He emphasised that the conflict requires concrete, binding agreements rather than premature leadership summits.
Putin concluded that technical experts must first work out specific solutions before any meeting between the two presidents can take place.
