Romania’s President Nicușor Dan has nominated Adrian Veştea as Prime Minister following Eugen Tomac’s resignation.
Dan announced Tomac’s resignation and Veştea’s nomination on X on Sunday morning.
He said Veştea had completed all key stages of public service, including roles as a successful mayor, county council president, and minister, adding that he had focused on development projects such as the Brașov airport, which he cited as evidence of his administrative experience.
“Mr Veştea is pro-Western; he is a man of dialogue, with values, and who has worked with budgets for a long time, so I am convinced that he will successfully fulfil this new task,” Dan said.

The president also thanked Tomac, praising his “seriousness, accountability, and responsibility.”
“I thank Eugen Tomac. Neither Mr Tomac nor I played at governing. We proceeded in this direction following consultations with the political parties. At this moment, however, it is clear that a political solution is the appropriate one,” he added.
According to Romania Insider, Veştea ‘s nomination comes after Tomac failed to secure the backing of the National Liberal Party, while the Save Romania Union (USR) and the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) were also reluctant to back Tomac.
They argued that a technocratic cabinet that had only the support of PSD would not be able to govern or carry out needed reforms. PSD seemed tentatively willing to back Tomac’s government, provided that several fiscal measures initiated by the party would be implemented.
