Seven abducted victims have been rescued by troops of Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA during coordinated counter-terrorism operations in Katsina and Zamfara states.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said in a statement issued on Wednesday that the operations form part of ongoing search-and-rescue efforts to eradicate terrorism and banditry in Nigeria’s North West region.
Danja said troops conducting Operation Clean Sweep 3 intensified offensive operations against terrorist enclaves in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State on Tuesday.
“The operation, aimed at building on the recent successful rescue of the spouse of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, further dismantled terrorist networks and freed captives. Accordingly, troops targeted identified terrorist hideouts in Fafu Village, Matazu LGA,” he said.

“Overwhelmed by the aggressive assault and superior firepower of the troops, the terrorists abandoned their camp and fled with abducted victims. Troops subsequently cleared the camp and rescued four kidnapped victims, who are currently receiving medical attention for injuries sustained during their captivity.”
He added that troops also foiled a kidnapping attempt in Zurmi town, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. According to him, the terrorists had infiltrated the community with the intent to abduct residents, but troops quickly mobilised and engaged them in a gun duel.
“The terrorists, unable to withstand the overwhelming fire from troops, abandoned their mission and fled. Following a thorough clearance and exploitation of the area, troops rescued three abducted victims, ensuring their safe return to their families,” Danja added.
According to him, the successful operations underscore Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s relentless commitment to protecting lives and property across the North West.
