Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Ogun State Police Command have disrupted a cult initiation procession in the Isara-Remo axis of the state and arrested 30 suspected cultists.

The spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that the operation was carried out on Tuesday at about 4:00 p.m.

He said the raid followed credible intelligence that suspected hoodlums had gathered at an uncompleted building for an unlawful assembly involving chanting, consumption of alcoholic substances, and alleged initiation activities.

Babaseyi added that operatives recovered four vehicles allegedly abandoned during the suspects’ attempted escape, alongside other exhibits including a jackknife, a local drum, a “sekere” (rattle), and bottles suspected to have contained alcoholic drinks.

According to him, the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta, where investigations are ongoing, and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the process.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their swift response and professionalism.

He described the operation as “a clear demonstration of the Command’s sustained intelligence-led policing strategy and zero tolerance for violent crime and unlawful assemblies.”

Ojajuni reiterated that cultism and related criminal activities would not be tolerated in any part of the state.

The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious gatherings or criminal activities to the nearest police formation.
