The Nigeria Police Force has assured residents, voters and other stakeholders of adequate security before, during and after Saturday’s Ekiti State governorship election.

The assurance was given by the Supervising Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) for the election, Mustapha Fayoade, during an engagement with police officers and other security stakeholders in Ado Ekiti on Thursday.

Fayoade said the police, alongside other security agencies, had implemented comprehensive security measures, including deploying personnel and logistics, to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

The supervising DIG also emphasised the need for cooperation among security agencies involved in election operations, urging them to work together to maintain peace and protect voters, electoral officials and election materials.

He called on political actors, members of the public and other stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies, obey the law and contribute to a peaceful atmosphere during the poll.

Fayoade, who is being assisted by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olanrewaju Ogunlowo, was deployed by Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to coordinate security operations for the election.

The police said the deployment was to ensure a credible, peaceful and violence-free election.

Earlier, Ekiti State Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle, who assumed office two days ago, also assured residents that a multi-layered security framework had been established to prevent disruptions during the election.
