The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun uploading polling unit results from the Ekiti State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV) following the official close of voting.

As of 10:30 p.m., the commission had uploaded 2,354 of the expected 2,445 polling unit results, representing 96.28 per cent of the total.

The uploads followed the completion of voting, ballot sorting and vote counting in many polling units across the state.

A review of the IReV portal showed significant progress in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, where officials had uploaded results from most polling units. Iyin I and Iyin II wards recorded the highest number of uploads, with results from 20 of 23 and 21 polling units respectively available on the portal.

Officials uploaded results from 19 of 21 polling units in Igbemo Ward and 16 of 22 in Iworoko. In Igede II, 14 of 15 polling unit results were available, while Igede I had 13 of 15 results uploaded.

Other wards with uploaded results included Are Ward 02, with nine of 10 polling unit results; Igede III, nine of 11; Afao, six of eight; Iropora/Esure/Eyio, nine of 16; and Awo, eight of 12.

Voting ended in many polling units across Ekiti State before 3 p.m., after which election officials began sorting ballots and counting votes.

Residents across the state’s 16 local government areas turned out on Saturday to cast their ballots in the election conducted by INEC.

Collation is ongoing in some local government areas.
