Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested two elderly men, aged 84 and 75, in Abia State during separate operations to uncover drug-trafficking networks.
NDLEA Spokesperson Femi Babfemi disclosed the details of the arrests in a statement issued on Sunday.
In Abia, the agency arrested 75-year-old Godwin Obulunbiya Obiora on Friday, June 19, 2026, after intelligence linked him to the sale of illicit drugs from a patent medicine shop in Umuahia. Operatives reportedly recovered 4.64 kilograms of opioids, including tramadol and diazepam, during a search of his premises on 4 Club Road.
In a separate incident, NDLEA said 84-year-old Godfrey Orji was arrested after being caught supplying drugs to students near Saint Silas Secondary School in Old Umuahia.
The school’s security personnel initially apprehended him before handing him over to the police, who later transferred the case to the NDLEA. One of the teenage students involved reportedly told investigators that the suspect supplied him with drugs, which he both consumed and sold to peers.
Babafemi said the minors have been placed on counselling and rehabilitation while the suspects will be prosecuted.
In another operation, the agency said it intercepted a shipment of ADB Chminaca, a synthetic cannabinoid classified as a new psychoactive substance, at a courier company in Lagos. The consignment, originating from China, weighed 9.5 kilograms and was concealed in a carton.

In a separate seizure in Lagos, officers reportedly discovered 300 grams of “Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis, hidden in ladies’ handbags at a logistics facility.
The agency also said it raided the residence of a wanted suspect, Lukman Badmus, also known as Lukman Ogombo, in the Ogombo area of Ajah, Lagos, where nine bottles of codeine syrup and 30 grams of skunk were recovered. A follow-up search at his wife’s shop on Lagos Island led to the recovery of additional codeine bottles and drug-related items.
NDLEA operatives also said they intercepted a suspect, Tochukwu Onah, along the Okene–Lokoja highway in Kogi State with 1.030 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in custard containers while travelling from Lagos to Abuja.
In Ekiti State, a couple, James Tony Chukwudi and James Kehinde, previously wanted over the seizure of 117 kilograms of skunk, were arrested after months on the run.
In Oyo State, officers arrested three suspects, including 75-year-old Tudun Olubiyi, after raiding a house in the Dangote area of Elekara, Oyo town. The agency said 118 jumbo bags containing 1,416 kilograms of skunk concealed with sawdust were recovered from the property.
Elsewhere, NDLEA said it destroyed large cannabis plantations in Edo State, including 1,744 kilograms in the Khagba forest and over 2,400 kilograms at Ebora Camp in Ilushi, while additional arrests and recoveries were made during coordinated raids.
The agency also highlighted ongoing sensitisation activities under its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, including outreach programmes in schools, religious centres and communities.
