The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, says it has arrested 73 suspects and recovered various illicit substances during coordinated raids on drug dens across the state.
In a statement issued on Friday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Maigatari, the agency said the arrests were made during a one-day intelligence-driven operation targeting known drug locations.
The operation covered areas including Filin Mahaha, the Sani Abacha Youth Centre and parts of Sheka, all within Kano city.
According to the agency, the exercise, conducted under “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” led to the recovery of substances such as cannabis, diazepam, pregabalin, Exol-5 and other locally abused drugs, alongside items linked to drug distribution and consumption.
“In a one-day, coordinated intelligence-led operation conducted under ‘Operation Sharar Mafaka,’ officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano Strategic Command, raided the notorious Filin Mahaha drug den, the Sani Abacha Youth Centre and locations in the Sheka area, arresting 73 suspects and recovering a variety of illicit substances,” the statement said.

The command said the operation is part of an ongoing effort to identify and dismantle drug hubs across the state, noting that enforcement teams are adopting sustained, clear and occupy tactics to prevent a return of illegal activity to the affected areas.
It added that the strategy is aimed at denying traffickers safe spaces to operate and disrupting established patterns of drug abuse and distribution.
The NDLEA reiterated that it would continue its operations in line with directives from its national leadership Mohamed Buba Marwa until drug-related activities are significantly reduced in Kano State.
“This operation is a continuation of ‘Operation Sharar Mafaka,’ the command’s ongoing operation to identify, dislodge and dismantle notorious drug joints across the state,” it said.
“The sustained use of dislodge-and-occupy tactics is intended to disrupt the pattern of activity at these locations and deny drug traffickers safe havens to operate.
“We will continue to dislodge and occupy these drug joints in line with the direction of our Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, until there is no safe place left for illicit drug activities,” the statement added.
The agency also urged members of the public to support ongoing enforcement efforts by providing credible and timely information to assist further operations.
