A High Court in Abuja on Monday ordered the remand of Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), in Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his motion for a stay of execution following the revocation of his bail.
Justice Mohammed Umar, in a ruling, also dismissed Sowore’s application seeking the judge’s recusal from the case on grounds of alleged bias.
The judge had, on June 16, revoked a bail granted to Sowore following his failure to appear in court for his trial, and issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

Sowore was not present in court when the earlier revocation order was made, and his lawyer was also absent, prompting the prosecution to argue that his repeated failure to appear was a “delay tactic”.
The Department of State Services (DSS) is prosecuting Sowore over a five-count charge for allegedly referring to President Bola Tinubu as “a criminal” in a post on his X and Facebook accounts, and refusing to take down the posts.
He has consistently denied the charges.
Justice Umar dismissed the recusal application and adjourned the matter until June 24 for the hearing of the stay application.
