A High Court in Nigeria has revoked the bail earlier granted to the Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, following his absence on Tuesday.
Trial judge Mohammed Umar also issued a bench warrant for his arrest following an oral application by the prosecution counsel, Akinkolu Kehinde, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The State Security Service (SSS) is prosecuting Sowore over allegations that he referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal” in posts on his Facebook and X accounts.
The court had fixed Tuesday for ruling on an application filed by Sowore through his lawyer, Marshal Abubakar, seeking the judge’s recusal from the case.

However, Sowore and his lawyer were reportedly absent when the case was called.
The court was later informed that the defendant had sent a letter seeking an adjournment.
The judge acknowledged that although Sowore had sent a letter seeking an adjournment, he did not state any reason for the adjournment in the letter.
He subsequently adjourned the case to June 22, 2026, for hearing.
The SSS counsel opposed the application, arguing that no sufficient reason was provided. He then asked the court to revoke Sowore’s bail and issue a bench warrant for his arrest, which the court granted.
