The Rivers State Police Command says it has commenced an investigation into allegations of extortion involving some police officers on Tuesday.
This follows a viral video and social media reports accusing ASP Omomefe Akin Geoffrey and other officers of collecting money illegally from members of the public while on duty.
In a statement, the Command said it has taken the allegations seriously, noting that such behaviour runs counter to the ethics and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, ordered the immediate arrest, detention, and investigation of the officers involved.
He stressed that extortion, illegal money collection, and any form of misconduct will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring officers conduct themselves in a manner that promotes public trust, accountability, and respect for human rights,” the statement read.
CP Adepoju assured that the investigation will be thorough, transparent, and impartial, adding that any officer found culpable will face disciplinary action in line with the law and the Nigeria Police Act.
The Command also urged members of the public to continue reporting cases of misconduct, corruption, and abuse of office through official channels.
