Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have dismantled a kidnapping syndicate linked to a string of abductions and killings in communities bordering the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Nasarawa State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the NPF’s Public Relations Officer, Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, said two suspected members were arrested, and an assault rifle, ammunition and livestock believed to be proceeds of crime were recovered.
According to the NPF spokesperson, the suspects, identified as 25-year-old Buhari Adamu and 28-year-old Abubakar Saidu, were arrested during separate operations in Gbagalape and Mararaba.
He added that the two suspects are believed to have participated in multiple kidnappings, violent attacks and murders across the FCT–Nasarawa axis.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, linked the syndicate to a deadly attack on May 16, 2026, in Gbagalape, a border community between the FCT and Nasarawa State.
During the attack, several residents were reportedly abducted, while others were killed or suffered gunshot wounds.
The police added that some victims were murdered even after ransom demands had been made.
Following the arrests, operatives raided the gang’s hideout in the Gbagalape Hills, where they recovered one AK-47 rifle, 22 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, 14 cows and three sheep suspected to have been acquired through criminal activities.
Iniedu added that the suspects have provided useful information to investigators, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other members of the syndicate still at large.
“The suspects have made statements aiding ongoing investigations, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the criminal gang.”
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations against violent criminal groups across the country.
He also commended the operatives of the FID-STS for their professionalism and resilience, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support crime prevention and investigation.
