The minister of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to begin work on a road in a community after residents displayed banners drawing attention to its poor condition.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the newly completed Old Keffi Road in the FCT, Wike acknowledged the residents’ protest.
The minister said residents have the right to adopt peaceful means of drawing the government’s attention to their concerns.
“Everybody has his own strategy of making sure that attention is given,” he said.
Wike said President Bola Tinubu has consistently demonstrated a willingness to address infrastructure challenges once they were brought to his attention.

“Mr. President has repeatedly said, once he is aware of your problems, particularly as it relates to roads where there will be connectivity, where you can go to your farms and bring out whatever you produce, action will be taken,” he said.
The minister announced that he had directed the Executive Secretary of the FCDA to commence work on the road.
He added that the intervention aligns with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Mr. President, the whole essence of the Renewed Hope Agenda is to bring back hope where people have lost hope. I’m sure those from these communities will never forget Mr. President. And Mr. President, that’s what you took the oath of office for,” he said.
