No fewer than 15 people were killed and 17 others injured in a lone auto crash along the Ogbomoso-Oko Olowo section of the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway in Kwara State in the early hours of Monday.
The crash occurred around 2:32 a.m. near the Muslim Cemetery and involved a DAF XF trailer with registration number GWL 274 XC, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The FRSC said 48 male passengers were involved in the accident. While 15 died, 17 sustained varying degrees of injuries, and 16 escaped unhurt.
The agency attributed the crash to driver fatigue, adding that the victims suffered injuries including fractures, dislocations and bruises.

Kwara State FRSC Sector Commander, Kabiru Kazeem, identified the driver as Nasiru Muhammed and said the injured victims were taken to Arewa Medical Centre and Baki Hospital for treatment.
He added that the bodies of those who died had been released to their families through the Sarkin Hausawa of Oko Olowo in Moro Local Government Area.
Kazeem disclosed that rescue workers were still searching for more victims believed to be trapped beneath the vehicle’s load.
He said the operation was carried out jointly by personnel from the FRSC’s Oloru Unit and the Oko Olowo Outpost.
The sector commander said the command would intensify public awareness campaigns through town hall meetings with stakeholders and urged motorists to avoid night journeys, avoid fatigue, and avoid carrying passengers alongside goods.
