The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has commissioned newly completed staff quarters for the Nigerian Law School, announcing plans to construct 20 additional residential complexes.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony in Abuja, Wike disclosed that he was surprised to discover that the Law School had occupied its expansive land for years without a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O).

“Let me say clearly that it shocked me when the DG of the Law School came to see me in the office,” he said.
According to the minister, he was astonished that “an institution of this nature, occupying such an expanse of land, did not even have any title document to show that this property belongs to them.”
He said he immediately directed that the institution be issued its Certificate of Occupancy without paying the required fees.
“I said, go home, you will get your Certificate of Occupancy, and all the fees to be paid are hereby waived,” Wike stated.
Addressing the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, he added, “Before we finish, I believe we will present to you your Certificate of Occupancy.”

The minister also announced that the Nigerian Government had approved the construction of 20 additional staff quarters for the institution.
“Mr. President… asked me one simple question: Why didn’t I do more for them?
“I said, I will do more. He then told me to announce that we are going to do 20 more of these complexes,” Wike said.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for approving the project.
“Mr. President, I want to sincerely thank you for giving me the approval to do 20 more of these staff quarters,” he said.
Wike noted that expanding accommodation should take priority over renovating existing facilities.
“I hope that Mr. Chairman will not continue to talk about renovations. Renovations will hold on. Let’s provide the new ones for you. So, 20 more will go a long way,” he said.
The minister also directed contractors handling the construction of the hostel blocks with a combined capacity of 316 bed spaces to return to site immediately.
He explained that after learning work had slowed because of funding constraints, he instructed the Executive Secretary to ensure construction resumed without delay.
“I hereby direct you to go and tell the contractors to move back to site, and that these two buildings must be completed before the end of the year,” he said.
Wike further assured contractors that outstanding payments would be settled promptly.
“Every kobo owed to the contractors must be paid this month,” he declared.
