Fulham have appointed former Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa as their new manager, handing the Spaniard a three-year contract as he begins a new chapter in the Premier League.

The English club confirmed the appointment on Wednesday, describing Arbeloa as their new Head Coach in an official statement.

“The Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Alvaro Arbeloa as the new Head Coach of Fulham,” the club said.

The 43-year-old brings significant experience from his playing career, having been part of Spain’s 2010 FIFA World Cup-winning squad and enjoying a successful spell with Real Madrid.

During his time at the Santiago Bernabéu, Arbeloa won the UEFA Champions League twice and established himself as a key figure in one of Europe’s most successful teams.

However, his transition into coaching at Real Madrid proved difficult. Arbeloa took charge of the club’s first team in January after replacing Xabi Alonso but struggled to deliver consistent results.

His brief tenure was marked by an early Copa del Rey exit to second-tier Albacete, damaging La Liga defeats that ended Madrid’s title ambitions, and a Champions League quarter-final elimination against Bayern Munich.

Arbeloa now returns to England, a country he knows well after representing Liverpool during his playing career. He replaces Marco Silva, who left Fulham after guiding the club to an 11th-place finish in the Premier League last season before taking over at Portuguese giants Benfica.

Speaking after his appointment, Arbeloa said he was proud to take charge of the London club.

“It is a real honour for me to be embarking on this new stage at Fulham FC, the oldest club in London,” he said. “I feel a great sense of responsibility.”

The Spaniard will now face the challenge of building on Fulham’s recent progress while proving himself as a manager at the highest level of English football.
