The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos election, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has pledged that the opposition coalition will not only mobilise voters but also safeguard their votes against intimidation and manipulation.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, Rhodes-Vivour said lessons from the 2023 governorship election informed the coalition’s strategy of building structures capable of resisting electoral interference while ensuring votes count.

He explained that the coalition brings together people across political parties, ethnic groups and generations to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and protect the integrity of the electoral process.

According to him, politicians who genuinely enjoy public support should not depend on violence, thuggery or intimidation to secure or retain political office.

Rhodes-Vivour said the coalition is committed to presenting Lagos residents with an alternative model of governance anchored in transparency, accountability, and citizen participation, adding that its goal is to ensure that votes are both cast and protected.

He also identified technology as a critical tool for improving governance in Lagos, stressing that transparent systems would help build public confidence and encourage wider participation in government.

The former Labour Party candidate argued that governance should prioritise improving residents’ quality of life rather than focusing solely on revenue generation. He added that restoring trust in public institutions through accountability and openness is essential for sustainable development.

Rhodes-Vivour further criticised what he described as a culture of poor governance in the country, saying the coalition intends to promote a more transparent, resilient and people-centred administration through technology and institutional reforms.
