Falz: Nigerians Must Break Silence On Hardship

Nigerian rapper, lawyer and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has called on citizens and public figures to speak out against the country’s challenges, saying silence cannot continue to define Nigeria’s response to insecurity and hardship.

Speaking on the role of entertainers in national conversations, Falz said many people hesitate to challenge the status quo for fear of losing their sources of income or facing backlash.

“More people are concerned about how they’re eating, how they’re living, how they’re earning a living, and they’re not sure that they want to tamper with that,” he said.

The rapper, however, argued that public figures have a responsibility to use their platforms for issues affecting society.

“We, as entertainers, we as public figures have a big duty. I think we have a huge responsibility to use our voice for this cause,” Falz said.

He also rejected the idea that activism should be left to a small group, insisting that Nigerians must collectively demand better governance and improved living conditions.

“Every single person existing in Nigeria should be an activist. It shouldn’t be a thing of ‘Oh, these are the activists, let them do it,’ he said.

Falz, who has consistently used his music to address social and political issues, said his advocacy is driven by a sense of responsibility rather than personal ambition. He explained that his decision to speak out would remain the same even if he had pursued a full-time legal career.

The rapper also expressed concerns about insecurity and the difficulties Nigerians face, questioning how citizens can continue with their everyday lives while serious challenges persist.

Falz, who holds a law degree, said his activism reflects what he believes is necessary for the country at this time.
