A 60-year-old headmaster in Oyo State has been abducted by gunmen who are demanding N30 million for his release, police said on Monday.
Matthew Kolawale Owoade, head of Nomadic Basic School in Igbojaye, was seized on Saturday evening as he made his way home from his farm in the Budo Aare area of Itesiwaju Local Government Area, according to police and family sources.
The victim’s son, Abiola Owoade, said the kidnappers used the headmaster’s mobile phone to contact the family and issue a ransom demand of N30 million.
A search party found Owoade’s motorcycle abandoned in the bush on Sunday morning at about 8:20 a.m.

Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the incident, stating that efforts were underway to secure the victim’s safe release and apprehend those responsible.
“I can confirm to you that a farmer, Mathew Owoade, was kidnapped at his farm in Budo Aare, and efforts are on to rescue the man unharmed and arrest the perpetrators,” Ayanlade said.
The abduction has raised fresh security concerns in the state, occurring less than 72 hours after security forces rescued over 40 schoolchildren and teachers who had been held captive for 56 days following their abduction from schools in Oriire Local Government Area.
