Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned the Bwari Township Water Supply Network in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing the project as a fulfilment of the administration’s promise to extend development beyond city centres.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Bwari Area Council, Tinubu said the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda represents a commitment to delivering infrastructure that improves lives across communities.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda of our administration is not a mere slogan. It is a deliberate social contract and a commitment to governance that works for the people,” she said.
The First Lady recalled that residents of Bwari, Ushafa and surrounding communities had for years depended on untreated boreholes and streams, describing the situation as unacceptable.
“Water is life. Clean water is dignity. It is a fundamental right, not a luxury,” Tinubu said.

She noted that the 198-kilometre pipeline network would connect Bwari township and nearby communities to treated water from the Lower Usuma Dam, helping reduce reliance on individual boreholes and improve access to safe water.
Tinubu said the project had also created about 1,600 direct and indirect jobs, providing economic opportunities for young people in the area.
“This project is more than just laying pipelines, turning on taps. We do not make excuses. We deliver results,” she added.
The First Lady also assured residents that similar water projects would be extended to other satellite communities, including Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada and Abaji, before the end of the administration’s tenure.
