Soludo Hails Tinubu’s Southeast Highway Approval

Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has praised President Bola Tinubu for approving the design and procurement of two major highway projects in the Southeast, describing the decision as a significant step toward rebuilding the region and addressing decades-long infrastructure deficits.

In a post on his X account, Soludo said the approvals followed a meeting with the President earlier this month and subsequent discussions with the Minister of Works, David Umahi, over priority road projects for the region.

According to the governor, the approved projects are the dualisation of the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji road linking Anambra and Kogi states, and the approximately 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) road, which connects Anambra, Imo and Abia states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.

Soludo described the approvals as “history in itself,” saying he received confirmation from the Minister of Works on Tuesday that President Tinubu had approved both roads for “design and procurement.”

The governor argued that the projects would transform connectivity across the Southeast while strengthening links with the South-South and North Central regions.

“President Tinubu has a date with history, and even more so with the Southeast. He continues to demonstrate his avowed commitment to orchestrating the reconstruction of the Southeast, thereby finally healing the wounds of the Civil War,” Soludo wrote.

He added that the two highways “constitute critical game-changers for the Southeast, South-South and North Central,” describing the approvals as evidence of the benefits of collaboration between the federal and state governments.

Reflecting on the development, Soludo said the projects reinforced his belief in partnership-driven governance.

“For me personally, this is why politics makes sense to me: working collaboratively and building alliances to achieve concrete results that improve the lives of the people,” he said.

The governor thanked President Tinubu for the approvals and expressed confidence that the projects would have a lasting impact on the Southeast.
