Despite scoring eight goals throughout the competition, Messi struggled to break down Spain’s organised defence during the extra-time defeat, marking his second World Cup final loss following 2014 and his 2022 victory.

Argentinian media reported on Monday that Messi will skip the team flight back to Buenos Aires for the national team’s subdued return home.

Instead, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner plans to focus on the squad’s achievements, expressing gratitude for the immense support from fans throughout their hard-fought campaign.
