The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has called for stronger collaboration between Nigeria and Switzerland to advance the country’s development, with a focus on education, healthcare and poverty reduction.
Obi made the call after meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Patrick Egloff, on Tuesday, describing their discussions as productive and centred on Nigeria’s development priorities.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Obi said the meeting focused on key sectors that drive national development, particularly education, healthcare and efforts to lift more Nigerians out of poverty.

“Yesterday, I met with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Patrick Egloff, and we had a productive and engaging discussion on our country’s developmental journey, with particular emphasis on the critical sectors that drive development: education, healthcare, and lifting people out of poverty.”
According to Obi, deepening partnerships built on shared values and a commitment to human development is vital to achieving a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.

He also expressed appreciation to the Swiss Confederation for its continued support to Nigeria, acknowledging its contributions to economic, cultural, humanitarian and peace-building initiatives, especially in the North-East.
