The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has summoned the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Security Adviser (NSA) over the council’s alleged operations.
The committee issued the summons on Tuesday after expressing dissatisfaction with the failure of some heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to honour its invitations.
Chairman of the committee, Yusuf Gagdi, described the absence of key government officials as a setback to the ongoing investigation into the council’s activities and legal status.
The panel also criticised the Minister of Finance for sending a representative, insisting that invited officials must appear in person or risk further legislative action.
Gagdi warned that the committee would not tolerate non-compliance with its directives and called for full cooperation from all individuals and institutions connected to the investigation.
The committee said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Security Adviser were expected to explain how the PFIPC allegedly operated despite concerns over its legitimacy.
Lawmakers said their appearance would help establish the circumstances surrounding the council’s operations and clarify issues arising from the ongoing probe.
The PFIPC has come under legislative scrutiny as the House seeks to determine its legal standing and whether any government officials or agencies facilitated its activities.
