An early-morning fire has destroyed the electronics section on the second floor of a Justrite Superstore in Akowonjo, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters quickly brought the fire under control after it broke out at the store near Jimoh Bus Stop in Egbeda-Akowonjo on Thursday.
“The incident involves the second floor of the commercial building, housing the electronics section of the store,” the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said in a statement.
“Upon arrival, firefighters swiftly deployed firefighting equipment and commenced coordinated operations to contain the fire, prevent its spread to adjoining sections of the building, and safeguard lives, property and the environment,” she added.
Adeseye said that the fire had been extinguished and firefighters were carrying out recovery and mop-up operations.
She added the cause of the fire is believed to be linked to an alternative power source, specifically a solar inverter system.
“The fire has been put out, and recovery of the remains is ongoing to bring the mop-up exercise to a wrap. The cause of the fire is suggestive of an alternative power source solar inverter system, while no casualty has been recorded,” she said.
Videos shared on social media and by the fire service showed thick smoke rising from the roof of the building.
