Indonesian authorities have ended the search for 14 people still missing after a passenger boat capsized off the country’s eastern coast earlier this month.
The search operation, which lasted 10 days, was officially called off on Friday after rescuers failed to find any additional survivors or victims, search-and-rescue official Andi Sultan said.
“The entire search area has been thoroughly combed… and no further indications of victims have been found,” Sultan said in a statement.
The vessel, carrying 76 people, sank on July 15 while travelling near Selayar Island, south of Sulawesi.
Rescue teams saved 58 people, while four bodies were recovered. Two survivors were later found on an uninhabited island, and five others were rescued after drifting at sea.
According to officials, extensive searches of the accident area yielded no further signs of the remaining passengers.
Indonesia frequently records deadly maritime accidents due to poor safety standards and unpredictable weather conditions across its vast archipelago of more than 17,000 islands.
In January, three Spanish tourists died after a boat sank off eastern Indonesia, while a 10-year-old boy remained missing after search efforts were eventually suspended.
