Mahama to Host Gabon President for Three-Day Visit

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama will host Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema for a three-day official visit beginning July 28, as the two countries seek to deepen bilateral ties and expand cooperation across key sectors of their economies.

The July 28 to 30 visit is expected to focus on strengthening the longstanding relationship between Ghana and Gabon through high-level discussions on trade, investment, security, energy and other strategic areas.

According to the Ghanaian presidency, the two leaders will first hold a private tête-à-tête meeting before leading official bilateral talks at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The discussions will “review existing areas of cooperation and explore new opportunities” in sectors including “trade and investment, mining, energy, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, maritime affairs, transport, tourism, education, health, defence and security, environmental protection, climate action, and people-to-people exchanges.”

The presidency said the visit reflects both countries’ determination to broaden their partnership beyond traditional diplomatic relations by pursuing closer economic and development cooperation.

“The visit will also reaffirm the shared commitment of Ghana and Gabon to deepening bilateral cooperation and promoting sustainable economic development,” the statement said.

The meeting comes as both West and Central African nations are seeking to strengthen regional economic integration, diversify their economies and attract greater investment into critical sectors such as mining, agriculture, infrastructure and energy.

For Gabon, the visit marks another diplomatic engagement under President Nguema, who has sought to strengthen relations with African partners following his country’s political transition.

Ghana, under President Mahama, has also prioritised closer engagement with African states through economic diplomacy, regional security cooperation and expanded intra-African trade.

The visit is expected to conclude with agreements aimed at enhancing collaboration in areas of mutual interest and reinforcing the longstanding friendship between Accra and Libreville.
