The US military intercepted several Iranian ballistic missiles on Tuesday, breaking a brief pause in hostilities between the two nations.
According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces launched the surprise attack from Iran around 5:45 pm ET, targeting Middle Eastern bases housing American troops.
Military officials confirmed that defence systems successfully shot down all incoming projectiles, though they did not reveal the precise targets.
This latest barrage ended a temporary weekend lull in the conflict.
Before the brief pause, the United States had executed nearly two weeks of nightly strikes against Iranian targets, while Tehran launched repeated missile and drone attacks against Washington’s Gulf allies.
The sharp escalation in fighting originally erupted in mid-July after Iran attacked several commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
