President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee on the Alienation of National Government Properties, a body established in 2000 to oversee the privatisation and sale of government landed assets.
The dissolution, effective from November 5, 2025, was announced in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday.
The committee was established in 2000 during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to manage the privatisation, sale, and lease of national government landed assets under the government’s monetisation policy.
Its membership included the then Minister of Housing as Chairperson, alongside representatives from the Ministries of Transportation, Justice, Health, Agriculture, and the Nigeria Police Force.
On March 22, 2001, the Federal Executive Council approved the establishment of a Panel of Inquiry to produce a White Paper to guide implementation of its recommendations, according to the statement.
Following a review, the government noted that the committee’s activities had extended beyond its original mandate, resulting in multiple litigations across the country, and its continued existence was no longer justified.
All matters relating to the committee’s activities will now be coordinated by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
The erstwhile secretary, B.S. Dutsin-Ma, has been directed to cease acting on behalf of the committee and the national government on related matters.
