Plainclothes federal agents arrested an armed 38-year-old California man, Jeanine John Taele, at President Donald Trump’s Los Angeles golf course on Sunday, two days before the President arrived by helicopter for a Republican National Committee fundraising dinner.
Authorities detained John Taele of Downey after spotting him monitoring security preparations on the Rancho Palos Verdes property while taking photographs and videos.
Upon detaining Taele, deputies recovered a 16-round magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition from his pocket and subsequently discovered a loaded pistol in his vehicle.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office confirmed that federal officers intercepted the suspect directly on the golf course grounds before he could pose an immediate threat, placing him into custody for further investigation into his motives.
A joint search of his residence by sheriff’s investigators and the FBI’s counterterrorism unit uncovered an assault-style rifle, another pistol, a bulletproof vest, high-capacity magazines, two radios, and multiple notebooks filled with concerning statements.
The security breach represents the latest in a series of targeted threats against Trump, underscoring intense law enforcement vigilance across his appearances and properties.
It follows previous high-profile attempts on Trump’s life, including the July 2024 campaign rally shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, the armed confrontation at his West Palm Beach golf club later that year, and the April 2026 security breach at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C.
