Russia Vows Revenge After Election-Day Attacks

Russia has vowed to intensify strikes on Kyiv after Ukrainian drone attacks on Moscow killed two people.

The attacks came on Sunday, the final day of Russia’s parliamentary elections.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said about 1,600 drones were launched at Russia, with 450 targeting Moscow.

The attacks damaged buildings, set an oil refinery on fire and forced about 400 people to evacuate.

Russia’s Defence Ministry accused Ukraine of trying to “disrupt the democratic will of Russian citizens”.

It vowed to respond with intensified strikes on military targets in Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky defended the attacks, saying they had “a very significant impact” on the Moscow region.

Meanwhile, an exit poll showed President Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party leading with 49.4 percent.

The Communist Party followed with 14.2 percent, while the LDPR recorded 10.7 per cent.

The poll excluded electronic and military votes, while final results and turnout were expected on Monday.

Russia’s election authorities also reported more than 1,000 waves of cyberattacks targeting election infrastructure.
