The Kwara State Government has announced that victims abducted during the February 3, 2026, attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area have regained their freedom.
The announcement was made on Wednesday through the government’s official Facebook page, months after 176 residents were abducted during the coordinated assault.
In its statement, the government expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, security agencies and all those involved in securing the victims’ release.
“Alhamdulillah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!” the statement read.
The victims were kidnapped when suspected Boko Haram-linked extremists invaded the rural communities on motorcycles, launching an attack that reportedly lasted several hours.
The assault, regarded as one of the deadliest incidents in Kwara State’s history, reportedly claimed more than 200 lives, injured several residents, destroyed homes and businesses, and displaced many families.
Local vigilantes who attempted to repel the attackers were reportedly overwhelmed, with some said to have been trapped and burnt inside their office during the attack.
The state government did not disclose further details about how the victims regained their freedom or whether any rescue operation or negotiations preceded their release.
