U.S. President Donald Trump lashed out at media reports alleging critical weapons shortages on Thursday, insisting that the military holds massive stockpiles of munitions as conflict with Iran continues.
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that defence companies are actively building manufacturing plants at a historic rate and warned that officials who leak information to journalists face severe legal consequences.
“The ‘leakers’ of these treasonous statements are being hunted down,” Trump wrote, adding that authorities will seek long-term jail sentences for those responsible.
Media outlets, including The Washington Post and CNN, reported that dwindling stocks of long-range guided missiles and THAAD air defence interceptors forced Trump to reconsider further strikes against Tehran.
Reports also indicated that the US president confronted Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth during a recent cabinet meeting at Camp David over the supply issues.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell both rejected the reports as fake news.
At the same time, Iran’s foreign ministry separately denied Trump’s claims that active peace negotiations are underway between Tehran and Washington.
