Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have disrupted terrorist activities in separate operations across Zamfara State, recovering weapons-related items, intercepting a suspected logistics supplier and neutralising an improvised explosive device (IED).
The operations were conducted on August 7, 2026, according to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West.

In Zurmi Local Government Area, troops from Sector 2, working with a Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, responded to a report of a suspected IED near Jabanda village.
The team located and cleared the device, searched the road and declared it safe before reopening it to motorists.
On their return from the operation, the troops encountered terrorists at Birnin Tsaba village in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area. The troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to retreat into the bush.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of two motorcycles, a camouflage jungle hat, a handheld radio and other items.

“The operations disrupted terrorist movements, intercepted logistics supplier, recovered military accoutrements among other items, and neutralised an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from a major road.
“In a counter-Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) operation, troops of Sector 2 in conjunction with a Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, responded to a report of a suspected IED near Jabanda village, Zurmi Local Government Area.
“The team located and cleared the device, scanned the road, declared it safe and reopened to motorists. Returning from the operation, the troops encountered terrorists at Birnin Tsaba village, Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, and engaged them, forcing a withdrawal into the bush. Exploitation of the general area led to the recovery of two motorcycles, a camouflage jungle hat, a handheld radio and other items,” the statement read.
In Shinkafi Local Government Area, troops working with the Mobile Police Squadron also acted on intelligence about terrorist activity around Kwanar Jolof.
The troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to withdraw. A follow-up search recovered a motorcycle, two camouflage uniforms, a camouflage vest, a jungle hat and other items.
Separately, troops on patrol near Maradun intercepted a 35-year-old suspected terrorist collaborator and logistics supplier identified as Lawali Dan Alo.
Although he reportedly claimed the bag he was carrying contained food items, a search uncovered ₦5.302 million in cash and a mobile phone.
Preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspect was allegedly transporting the money on behalf of a terrorist leader to another individual, identified as Kasimu Garba.
Garba was subsequently arrested at his residence, and both suspects remain in custody for further investigation.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance and prompt response, saying intelligence-led operations, aggressive patrols and targeted actions against terrorist networks would continue across the North-West.
It also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and credible information to support efforts to restore lasting peace in the region.
