A consortium backed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is reportedly nearing a deal to acquire a significant minority stake in Liverpool Football Club, with the investment potentially giving the group more than 30 per cent ownership of the Premier League side.
According to Sky News, the consortium is closing in on an agreement with Fenway Sports Group (FSG), Liverpool’s current owner. The deal could be announced as early as this week, although discussions may extend into next week before an agreement is formally confirmed.
The investment group is led by Amit Bhatia, a British businessman and investor, and includes Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook co-founder. Bezos is also part of the consortium, bringing one of the world’s wealthiest individuals into a potential investment in one of football’s most valuable clubs.
The proposed transaction is expected to value Liverpool at around $6 billion. If completed, the consortium would acquire a stake potentially exceeding 30 per cent, making it a major shareholder while leaving FSG with control of the club.

The prospective investment has already raised questions about Liverpool’s ownership structure and the club’s long-term direction. While the consortium is initially expected to take a minority position, its involvement could fuel speculation that the investors may eventually seek a larger stake or even full control of the club.
For Liverpool, the deal would bring substantial financial backing and introduce a group with significant experience across global technology, finance and business. However, any change in ownership would also attract close attention from supporters, particularly given FSG’s long-standing role in the club.
Neither the reported investment nor the potential future ownership plans have been formally confirmed. For now, the focus remains on whether FSG and the Bezos-backed consortium can complete the proposed transaction in the coming days.
If the deal goes through, Liverpool would become the latest major football club to attract investment from a consortium backed by some of the world’s most prominent billionaires and business figures.
