The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Tuesday appealed to aviation unions to exercise restraint amid an ongoing industrial action that has disrupted flight operations.

The NCAA said the aviation minister was working to resolve the issues.

The authority also disclosed in a statement that the matter would have been addressed at a meeting convened by Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo last week, but the meeting could not hold as airline operators failed to honour the invitation.

It also assured the travelling public that flight safety remained uncompromised and that the authority continued to exercise its statutory safety oversight responsibilities.

“We appeal to all parties to embrace dialogue and cooperation. We are confident that the matter will be resolved shortly and normal flight operations will resume as soon as practicable,” the statement said.

The NCAA regretted the inconvenience caused to passengers and appreciated their patience and understanding, it added.

The industrial action, which began on Tuesday, has disrupted flight operations at Lagos airport, leaving passengers stranded.

The unions are protesting over issues related to Air Peace employees’ right to join the union, according to sources.
