Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has called on United States President Donald Trump to pay close attention to the upcoming Osun State governorship election.

Davido expressed concerns over possible violence and intimidation ahead of the August 15 poll.

In a post on his X account addressed to Trump, the singer said there were growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence or disruption of the democratic process in the south-western state.

“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election,” Davido wrote.

“There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process.

“Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear.”

“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected.”

Davido added: “We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election” .

Davido’s appeal comes as political tensions rise in Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, in which his uncle, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election.

The singer had previously said during a livestream that he would tag Trump on social media and, if necessary, take his concerns to the White House if he believed the election had been compromised.

“I’ll tag Trump, I’ll call Trump, everybody. If they still don’t see anything, I’ll go in front of the White House and say, ‘Help us,'” he said.

“They think it’s a joke. Trump will just say, ‘I think there’s a Nigerian artiste sending me a message. Don’t worry, my message will be delivered.’”
