Russia and Ukraine exchanged heavy aerial assaults on Sunday as Ukraine launched hundreds of drones toward Moscow while Russian missile strikes killed three people and wounded over a dozen across Ukrainian cities.
Russian air defences intercepted more than 600 drones heading for the capital, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
Moscow Regional Governor Andrey Vorobyov called the barrage “one of the most massive drone attacks in recent memory,” confirming six injuries and reporting a major fire at a Wildberries warehouse in Podolsk triggered by a drone strike.
Simultaneously, Russian missile strikes killed two people in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region and one in Kryvyi Rig, leaving more than 20 people wounded across Kyiv, Brovary, Kryvyi Rig, Odesa, and Dnipropetrovsk.
In Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned residents of ballistic missile strikes as explosions ignited fires in the Obolonsky and Holosiivskyi districts.
Local officials in Kryvyi Rig confirmed that Russian forces struck two industrial sites, while strikes also targeted Kremenchuk in the central Poltava region.
The escalating clash spilt beyond the combatants’ borders as a Spanish NATO F-18 fighter jet shot down a drone that crossed into Romanian airspace near Galati.
The border incident marks the second time in two days that drone activity from the conflict reached neighbouring European nations, following similar airspace violations and drone downings reported by Latvian authorities earlier in the week.
