Ukraine Hits Two Russian Oil Refineries

Ukrainian forces struck two Russian oil refineries hundreds of kilometres past the border in a massive overnight drone attack, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Thursday.

Drones targeted facilities in the Yaroslavl and Bashkortostan regions—up to 1,300 kilometres from the front lines—as well as a major e-commerce logistics hub in the Tver region.

Sharing video footage of thick smoke rising above an oil site, Zelenskyy asserted that deep strikes “strengthen the prospects for diplomacy” and stated that Russia must choose peace.

Today, our long-range sanctions once again worked to limit Russia’s oil revenues, which it uses to finance the war and the killing of Ukrainians.

Moscow confirmed intercepting over 600 Ukrainian drones during the wave, with Yaroslavl officials describing the assault as the largest of the war in their region.

Simultaneously, Russian forces retaliated with deadly long-range strikes across Ukraine, killing two people at a Kharkiv train station and one person aboard a commercial grain vessel in the Black Sea.

The escalation follows a devastating Russian missile barrage on Kyiv a day earlier that killed 17 people and destroyed retail infrastructure, which analysts view as a direct response to Ukraine’s campaign against Russian commercial networks.

With formal diplomatic efforts stalled over four years into the full-scale war, both nations continue to expand long-range bombardments, driving civilian casualty figures sharply higher.
