Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has ruled out pursuing a career in politics for now, saying Nigeria’s political system is too stressful and unpredictable.
Davido made the remarks on Tuesday during an exclusive interview with NewsCentral TV while reflecting on the outcome of the Osun State governorship election and his role in supporting his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The singer said he was comfortable with his current career and had no plans to become a politician despite the influence he has gained from his involvement in the election.
“No. I’m comfortable in my current job,” Davido said when asked if he would consider running for political office in the future.
He said the experience had exposed him to the challenges within Nigeria’s political system, particularly the uncertainty surrounding elections.
“I can’t even do this with this system. The high blood pressure that… How can you wake up in the morning knowing that the people want you and you can get ripped out? It cannot happen anywhere else in the world,” he said.
Davido said he believed divine intervention helped protect the outcome of the Osun election, adding that he was proud of the role he played in supporting the people and his family.
“I feel like the grace of God really came and saved us,” he said.

The singer also highlighted social media’s influence during the election, saying he challenged powerful political interests using only his phone.
“17 governors, with all their power, with all their immunity, with all their DSS, with all their billions, I defeated them with what? Just the phone,” Davido said.
He acknowledged that leadership could come from different backgrounds, citing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a former actor and comedian, and former Liberian President George Weah, a footballer.
“Leadership can come from anywhere, for sure,” he said.
Davido maintained that he was not interested in seeking political office himself, despite calls from some supporters to consider a presidential run.
“Personally, I don’t want to be involved in it,” he said.
He added that while his uncle, Governor Adeleke, could have his own political reasons for maintaining good relations with the President, the governor should make such decisions.
“That’s for the governor to decide. He’s been re-elected,” Davido added.
Davido’s comments come days after Adeleke secured a second term as Osun State governor in the August 15 governorship election.
The singer’s strong involvement in the election campaign and his use of social media to mobilise support had made him one of the most visible celebrity voices during the poll.
