APC candidate in the August 15 Osun State governorship election, Bola Oyebamiji, has accepted his defeat to Governor Ademola Adeleke, while supporting his party’s decision to review the result.

Oyebamiji, who came second with 444,815 votes, said Tuesday via a post on his official X page that he respected the poll outcome and appreciated voters who supported his campaign.

“I totally support the decision of our party in its ongoing review of the outcome of the election,” he said.

Adeleke of the Accord Party won the election with 511,067 votes, while ADC candidate Najeem Salaam came third with 17,180 votes.

Despite accepting the result, Oyebamiji raised concerns over what he described as increasing attacks on APC members and his supporters after the election.

“The violent attacks on our members witnessed in the build-up to the election have taken another dimension in the last 24 hours,” he said.

He called on the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other security agencies to intervene and stop further violence.

Oyebamiji also urged his supporters to remain calm and peaceful while thanking APC members, Osun residents and his campaign supporters for their commitment. He said the election had ended but promised to continue advocating for “effective, inclusive, and rapid development” in Osun State.

The Returning Officer, Joshua Ogunwole, declared Adeleke the winner at the INEC Collation Centre in Osogbo on Sunday. Ogunwole said 1,010,684 voters were accredited, while 1,005,800 votes were cast and 985,079 valid votes were recorded.

Adeleke, who first won the governorship in 2022, will now serve another four-year term as Osun State governor.
