Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued an abducted man in Kaduna State and foiled a terrorist attack in Sokoto State.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, in a statement issued on Friday, said the operations were carried out on August 20 and 21 across the Joint Operations Area

Danja said troops of Sector 1 responded to a distress call following the abduction of a 43-year-old man around Awon Community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State on August 20.

“The troops swiftly moved into the area and pursued the terrorists into the surrounding bushes, compelling them to abandon their captive and flee,” he said.

The victim was subsequently rescued and reunited with his family.

In a separate operation the following day, troops of Sector 2, working with local security personnel, responded to an attack on Kwaren Gamba Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Danja said the troops “engaged the terrorists and forced them to withdraw in disarray.”

During the subsequent pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, “one terrorist was neutralised,” while troops recovered two mobile phones, cash, an ATM card, recharge cards and other items, he said.

The military said the operations formed part of efforts to sustain pressure on terrorist groups operating across the North-West.

“The Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains resolute in sustaining the tempo of ongoing operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and create a safer environment for communities across the Joint Operations Area,” Danja said.

He added that the Theatre Command would “continue to respond decisively to emerging threats” and urged residents to remain vigilant.

The command also called on citizens to provide “timely, credible information to security forces” to support efforts to restore peace and security across the region.

The latest operations follow continued security challenges in parts of Kaduna and Sokoto states, where communities have faced attacks and abductions by armed groups.
