The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Osun State governorship election, Bola Oyebamiji, has said the party is still reviewing the results before deciding its next course of action.

Oyebamiji said this while appealing for calm among APC supporters after the election, which saw incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“For now, the APC is still examining the books, and by the time we spread our sheet, we’ll be able to get back to the public and listen to what our own opinion and what decisions we want to take,” Oyebamiji said.

He urged his supporters to remain calm while the party reviews the outcome.

“But the take-home is that they should be calm. They should be calm,” he said.

Oyebamiji also appealed to Adeleke to speak to his supporters and discourage violence.

“And I want to advise the governor, too, that it’s important for him to talk to his people,” he said.

“Violence is against our people. It’s not too good, and he needs to talk to them so that each and every one of us can be on the same page.”

The APC candidate said he had also received reports of attacks in his community, Ikire.

“About four or five people were attacked. We have informed the security operatives accordingly. That’s all I have to say about that.”

Oyebamiji’s comments come after INEC declared Adeleke the winner of the August 15 governorship election.

Adeleke, who contested on the Accord Party platform, secured 511,067 votes, defeating Oyebamiji, the APC candidate, who polled 444,815, according to INEC’s final results.

The election was marked by allegations of irregularities and vote-buying, with observer groups raising concerns over incidents recorded at some polling units.

Oyebamiji’s statement suggests that the APC has not yet announced whether it will accept the result or challenge the outcome through the appropriate legal channels.

The candidate also said he had met with President Bola Tinubu, who, according to Oyebamiji, stressed the importance of peaceful elections.

“I met with the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, and what Baba said was that the most important thing is to run every election with a peaceful mind,” he said.

Oyebamiji added that governance was ultimately about the people and urged Nigerians, particularly those in Osun, to maintain peace.
