Detained Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro posted photographs on Sunday from the New York jail where he remains in custody following his capture by US forces.
In his message on X, Maduro appeared visibly thinner while wearing a grey tracksuit and making peace signs.

He declared that he and his wife, Cilia Flores, remain strong and confident behind bars, offering the photos as a gift to his supporters and family.
US forces seized Maduro and Flores in Caracas during a January military operation, detaining them in Brooklyn on drug trafficking and firearms charges that both deny.
Federal authorities scheduled their trial in New York to begin on June 1, 2027.
Although Maduro posted the images on Sunday, camera metadata reveals he took them on June 25, just one day after devastating twin earthquakes struck northern Venezuela and killed over 6,500 people.
Maduro released the photos shortly after his successor, interim President Delcy Rodriguez, announced a major oil agreement granting the United States operational access to Venezuelan oil fields.
Operating under heavy diplomatic pressure from Washington, Rodriguez defended the partnership as a necessary step to rebuild the nation into an energy powerhouse.
