Kane Brace Helps Bayern Win German Cup Opener

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane scored twice as the cup holders rallied from an early deficit to secure a 4-1 victory over second-division Osnabrueck in their German Cup opener on Wednesday.

Osnabrueck briefly threatened a major upset when Robin Meissner put the hosts ahead in the fifth minute with a spectacular dipping strike from outside the penalty area.

The 21-time German Cup winners responded rapidly to maintain their long-standing record of avoiding first-round exits, which dates back to 1994.

Kane ignited the comeback by smashing home a rebound to equalise, before Tom Bischof added a second goal six minutes later to hand Bayern the lead.

Michael Olise extended the advantage in the 73rd minute, and Kane sealed the win by converting a late penalty with four minutes remaining.

Kane’s double brought his tally to 148 goals in 150 appearances for Bayern Munich across all competitions since joining the club from Tottenham in 2023.

Bayern’s convincing triumph follows Borussia Dortmund’s 5-0 victory against fifth-division amateur side HEBC in Hamburg on Tuesday.
