Venezuelan interim leader Delcy Rodriguez signed several strategic cooperation agreements with Surinamese President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons on Friday during an official visit to Paramaribo.
The new accords mark a major step toward regional rapprochement and focus on training Suriname’s oil and gas workforce following the nation’s recent offshore energy discoveries.

Rodriguez emphasised that Venezuela will share its extensive industry experience to help Suriname develop its newly found oil and gas deposits.
Under the new agreements, both nations also pledged to reopen bilateral air routes and grant 200 Venezuelan fishermen access to operate within the Atlantic corridor shared with Suriname.
During her visit, Rodriguez expressed gratitude for Suriname’s support following the June earthquakes that killed thousands in Venezuela, stating that her nation would remember the solidarity.
The agreement comes as Venezuela works to leverage its vast energy sector under a shifting domestic landscape.
Having increased national oil production by nearly 30 per cent, the government continues expanding international technical partnerships while maintaining major energy access agreements across the region.
